THE "TRASHMEN" COMETH?

Garbage guru Sidney Torres gives in to a reality TV producer, who's pitching an idea to networks.

After nixing several reality-TV pitches in the past -- including one from the recent Joan Rivershosted TV Land series "How'd You Get So Rich?" -- Sidney Torres IV has aligned himself with a production company that may produce a series documenting the labors of Torres' SDT Waste and Debris.

Tentative title, should the series come to pass: "Trashmen."

"I've had phone calls from different producers wanting to do different shows," Torres said Monday. "(In) every deal presented to me, I didn't like the way that they were going to try and put the show together as far as my personal life. We were more looking for an educational, entrepreneurial type show (about) understanding the details of growing a company in today's environment, the stresses of doing that."

Torres said he was contacted about six months ago by Hoff Productions, a San Francisco Bay Area-company that has made series and specials for several networks, including Animal Planet ("Weird, True and Freaky"), the Discovery Channel ("Ghost Detectives") and the History Channel ("Command Decisions").

"I looked at their Web site," Torres said. "They had a lot of amazing and really interesting factual shows and not so much drama (like) a lot of the reality you see. It's very classy. I basically agreed verbally to let them go and pitch it (to networks).

"My feeling was that I don't mind having a little of my personal life displayed, but I wanted to have more of an educational-type show (about) what it takes to run a business like mine."

Torres said that footage he's commissioned on his own of his company working the streets of the French Quarter may be used in the series.

He added that a pilot, or potential premiere episode, for the series may be shot during the upcoming Voodoo Music Experience, at which Torres pal (and SDT TV commercial star) Lenny Kravitz is a
scheduled headliner, and for which SDT will be doing grounds cleanup, waste removal and recycling, and all-important portable toilet wrangling....
